Trophy Fishing

What can we say other than the fishing is “beyond belief”. Gagnon Lake provides access to Trophy fishing for Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Grayling and Walleye. These pristine waters have never been commercially fished and have not been sport fished in over 35 years. The fishing experience provides our guests the unique opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime.

Wildlife and Aurora Viewing

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area of Gagnon Lake. Musk Ox however are very prominent in the Gagnon Lake area and can be seen occasionally sunning themselves in meadows nearby. The muskox (Ovibos moschatus, in Latin “musky sheep-ox”), also spelled musk ox and musk-ox (in Inuktitut: ᐅᒥᖕᒪᒃ, umingmak; in Woods Cree: ᒫᖨᒨᐢ, mâthi-môs, ᒫᖨᒧᐢᑐᐢ, mâthi-mostos), is a hoofed mammal of the family Bovidae. Native to the Arctic, it is noted for its thick coat.

 

Many varieties of birds make the area their home. We are frequented by Eagles and have a family of loons living right by the cabin.z

Gagnon Lake is the ideal location to view the Aurora Borealis. The Northern Lights are most visible in August and September however periodically seen during June and July these days. Book the Outpost Lodge and come check out their spectacular show. A custom trip can be arranged to bring you to Gagnon Lake with use of all the facilities. Itinerary:

Originates at Cooking Lake Airport (CEZ3), Edmonton Alberta
Day 1 – Orientation, Ground School and Introductory Session at CEZ3 (Coal Lake AB)
Day 2-5 – Flight to and from Gagnon Lake NWT along with bush flying at lodge (10 Hours per Candidate)

Seaplane/Floatplane Destinations

If you own or have access to a seaplane/floatplane, Gagnon Lake provides the ultimate floatplane destination. The experience of flying in northern Canada, especially the NWT, is something to boast about in anyone’s logbook. There are literally thousands of lakes to explore. Make our Outpost Lodge your home base and enjoy both the amenities of our camp and also use of our boats for trophy fishing while exploring. This unique opportunity caters to pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Hop over the hill for amazing Walleye fishing or just go for a tour around the various lakes in the area.

Seaplane Destination Rate: $1000/day per airplane (MAXIMUM 4 GUESTS)

Food, fuel, sleeping bags and pillows not included
Fort Smith NWT is 125 NM south of Gagnon Lake for aviation fuel needs. It is recommended to carry an additional 10 to 20 gallons of avgas in containers.

European Customer Trips

Sixty North Adventures caters to European guests and provides the following “All Inclusive” fishing and wilderness retreat:

  • Return Economy airfare from Frankfurt Germany or Oslo Norway to Yellowknife via Edmonton or Calgary Alberta
  • Charter flight to and from Gagnon Lake in Cessna Caravan or Turbine Otter
  • Use of Private Island Outpost Lodge and boats, fishing equipment included (7 days at Gagnon Lake)
  • All meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner (Camp Chef included)
  • Fishing Licenses NOT included, please purchase online before arriving
  • Complimentary sleeping bags and pillows

Seaplane/Floatplane Rating

Become a bush pilot and come get your Seaplane/Floatplane rating flying in the North West Territories of Canada’s bush!!!

Your rating will be provided by Gagnon Lake Outpost Lodges owner Terry Allen who holds an Air Transport Rated Pilot License (ATPL) and includes a 2 hour ground school along with 10 hours of flight time (minimum 7 hours Transport Canada requirement). This endorsement will be done in a beautiful 1975 Cessna U206F amphibious aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with Wipline 3730 amphibious floats along with 2 Garmin G5’s, 430W IFR GPS, STEC 55X Autopilot and EDM 930 engine monitoring equipment. The amphibious component allows for a retractable checkout as well.
